With a new year approaching, it is essential for any business owner to start setting goals for marketing your business. Don’t know where to start?
Here are some elements that should be included in your marketing plan:
1. Marketing Goals
What are your goals for the next year? Do you need to build awareness of your company, or sell a certain number of products? Or maybe you are launching a new product or service that you need to market.
Take some time to jot down a couple of goals that you want to focus on. Don't just make small goals, stretch yourself, what are some big dreams that you want to accomplish?
2. Create Customer Profiles
Can you describe your current and/or future customer? Why should they be buying your products and services? What motivates them to buy?
In a new area jot down some notes about your potential customers and what makes them tick. Don't have a clue? Do you have any existing customers? Go have a coffee with them and ask them what made them decide to buy from you and how can you find people just like them?
3. Determine Your Marketing Mix
Where will your customers notice your marketing – print material, web-site, e-mail campaigns, social media? Where do your current clients come from?
4. Measure, Measure, Measure
Try and set quantifiable goals, like “sell X number of products in quarter 1”, so you can measure the effectiveness of your efforts.
5. Evaluate and Adjust
Determine what is working and what is not working through-out the year and make adjustments to your plan. Your environment is constantly changing and you will need to evolve with it!
Now that you have developed your plan, it’s time to put it into action! Don’t forget to make a budget for your marketing plan and determine who is going to be responsible for all of the tasks. You may have someone internally, or you may need to hire an outside company to help with certain pieces.
